The ISSA group wanted to speak publicly at the regular plenary session in February about the Mina Muga project.
His spokesman, Javier Solozábal, stated that his group had not been informed of the requests or the denials of two building permits, one presented in October 2022 and the second this week. Rober Matxin,
Town Planning Councilor, explained that the first license request cannot be granted until the Provincial Government approves a document that enables the occupation of part of a Public Utility Forest affected by the project.
The municipal secretary pointed out that the rectification procedure initiated by the Government of Navarra is beneficial both for the City Council
and for the (legal) security of the work.
He also stated that none of the licenses submitted have been denied.ISSA demanded more information both for its group and for the public.
When the mayoress was consulted about this lawsuit, Lucía Echegoyen stated that communication to the public is essential for the City Council: "We believe that right now we are in a part of the procedure that is totally technical and although we have not provided information at the moment,
it does not mean that in the future we are not going to do it ”, he stated. The plenary session was attended by around 20 workers from the Geoalcali company, who are currently in ERTE, with the intention of publicizing their employment situation and requesting the granting of the license to continue with the project.
Lucía Echegoyen has clarified that despite understanding this situation, the government team must safeguard the interests of the City Council and, therefore, those of the citizenry: "We believe that we are going in the right direction, processing the licenses under the law and the regulations that govern them," he declared.
Last Wednesday the City Council received the request for a partial license.
The mayor hopes to have an answer by the end of next week. Said license would allow the continuation of the mine works, as long as they do not affect the Public Utility Forest.
