I know that there is much political action against the Perth Freight Link, but I wonder if Main Roads WA may simply proceed in small steps that are easier to pull off, and which enhance the logic behind the so-called Roe 8 subset of the Perth Freight Link Project. The following is an extract from https://www.mainroads.wa.gov.au/Bui...anProjects/Pages/Perth-Freight-Link.aspx#news.

Tenders called for Roe Highway upgrade

Tenders have been called to address a pinch point on Roe Highway. This project will support free flowing traffic between Tonkin Highway and Orrong Road as part of the wider Perth Freight Link project.

The project will include changing the current two kilometre long, four-lane section of Roe Highway between Tonkin Highway and Orrong Road at Welshpool into three lanes in each direction.

The works will also include the construction of a new bridge over the freight railway near Sheffield Road and an off-road shared path for cyclists and pedestrians between Tonkin Highway and Orrong Road.

This section continues the development of the Perth Freight Link route from Muchea to Fremantle and our commitment to this strategic, free-flowing freight route for Perth's southern road network.

The new shared path will provide significant safety benefits for cyclists, pedestrians and all road users, compared to the existing on-road bicycle lanes.

The contract is expected to be awarded by December 2015, with works scheduled to be completed in December 2016.

I am unsure, but I think this is an open tender, which would allow BYL to bid in its own right, rather than via the Clough-Brierty consortium as one of three short-listed tenderers.
