Glencore has signed a 5 year deal with large battery chemical manufacturer GEM. This material is now tied up in long term contracts and less will be available on the spot market. The pool of cobalt available is shrinking.
This was an interesting comment from the article:
Analysts at RBC said that the deal “indicates that the Cobalt market is starting to improve, as we would not expect long-term contracts to be entered into if there was substantial surplus”.
