^ As far as drawing from the EV battery to power things in case of emergency - I have a Bolt and was curious about this. It seems like most people hook up an inverter to the 12V battery, which the main battery replenishes as required. Not ideal, but I believe the Tesla truck will have 120 and/or 240 volt outlets for tools/camping stuff/emergencies. I think in the future EV's will be an integral part of home energy systems.
I believe this is somewhat exciting news not that I'm interested in a GM truck. Ford also plans on releasing an electric F150 at the same time. Tesla has the big boys nervous. Some of the design features in the Ford Mach E make it very obvious that these guys are keeping a close eye on Tesla.

Trucks are going to need some big battery packs. We should be seeing some money flowing into nickel projects very soon.
