I suspect they are trotting out a good global corporate company line.
Cobalt is contentious being sourced mainly from the DRC where child labor is prevalent, they want to show supply chain purity through the statement.
Nickel, manganese and lithium do not have the image issues to potentially contaminate a brand like BMW.
They probably also do not wish to reveal too much at this early stage of any move taking place in securing the supply chain.
