Having done all my growing up in DRC, and still heavily involved through our charity organisation in the east of the country I can tell you that the government has always been a problematic regime, regardless of who the top man is, and the current Kabila government has no interest whatsoever in doing anything remotely helpful to anyone but themselves and their ever-expanding bank accounts. I am happy that DRC is getting some attention as it has forced (embarrassed) the government into acting to stop massacres of their own people in the east recently, and maybe just maybe there can be a bit more accountability. Every little bit helps when you are trying to stem the humanitarian disaster perpetrated by a succession of evil leaders.

FYI between the oil, gold, tantalum, platinum, copper and cobalt in DRC, it could be the richest country on the planet, so if the west takes notice (for the wrong reasons) at least it would give the population a better chance of a future.
