Thanks for that Schoes- it got buried under the flurry of new posts, many of which are from new friends to our great company, it raises very valid points.

If the West wishes the DRC to behave in a manner which we consider ethically sound we are most likely going to have to impose a change of government, send in troops to enforce that & then police what happens after as well of course as training up local military & police units.

The world is starting to note that there is no local solution to these issues-

If anyone thinks that throwing money at people who are, by our standards, rascals through & through, they are very much mistaken.

We send them aid money? We can be blamed for the weapons that aid money buys.
We send them food? We can be blamed for the way that food is used as a weapon- by the local government only giving it to groups which support the government & letting other citizens starve.

Could this be Mr.Trump’s signature war, oops, peace keeping mission?

Why not? It would slow Chinese expansion & control of what the US has declared a strategic mineral & without the religious mess that we have in the Middle East, the people may actually truly benefit from the West stepping in.

Hey- every US president needs a conflict of their own after all & there are many more people in America concerned about African people’s welfare than there are people who worry about the Middle East- our militaries would have a lot easier time there as we would let Chinese companies in on the game, ( no matter the tension between China & the West we both need each other economically ), & so there wouldn’t be as much support for the local militias by China.... Russia is a lot further away & have their hands full with Syria etc too....

Do I suspect that Western militaries are training for less desert & more African style operations right now? I sure do.
