Firstly I agree with everything you say.
Secondly I think the industry generally will react in a very disapproving manner to BHP taking up residence to nickel mining in Indonesia, I believe there would be flow on effects that adversely affect acceptable operations elsewhere.
I think that BHP has engaged with Indonesia under the guise of mining interest, when in reality it wants to inform and encourage a way forward in more sustainable correctly priced product to market from Indonesia. Dumping the slash and burn manner Indonesia currently allows business.
I believe BHP wants a friendly ear to changing the manner in which Indonesia does business with China.
Having said that, perhaps I give BHP management too much credit.
