I’d like to think too that industry and political leaders will be more ESG minded out of basic common decency and concern for future generations’ longterm wellbeing.
Somehow I get distressing vibes of large scale corruption and greed when the names China and Indonesia are mentioned in the context of mines development and exploitation of natural resources.
And I cannot see any saintly golden haloes around the heads of the top management of BHP.
BHP might be big, but Chindonesia is much bigger.
What material wealth and economic development can BHP offer that Chindonesia doesn’t already have?
I’m under no illusion that Indonesia’s natural resources ESG not gonna improve under the combined lead of Chindonesia.
For the sake of the natural environment and millions of Indonesians living in poverty, I’m fine to be proven wrong.
