Translation? ‘VW risks losing some existing customers to other automakers who have either cobalt/nickel supplies on hand or have made agreements with suppliers.’
Lesson for other automakerss & VW?
Buy cobalt or nickel on the open market or get a supply agreement with a producer, perhaps even show some foresight & invest in a cheap, multi decade, deposit of nickel & cobalt in a safe operating environment free from child etc labour which will ruin your corporate image. ( ARL ).
VW is still re-building their image after ‘diesel gate’ & buying cobalt which children are forced to either dig up or go hungry certainly won’t help them do that.

Congo cobalt could very well all but dry up for at least a few years as far as the big auto & electronics makers, including of course battery makers, are concerned.
The odds of a serious cobalt crunch are increasing by the day now- & no, there is no replacement for the next number of years- after we are in production ourselves & years after we may be selling to BHP or another third party processor.
No, cobalt at or over US$100,000 a tonne will not change any of that- it will encourage more investment in to alternatives but it won’t be enough to buy a magic genie which can do it over night.
I for one don’t care whether I’m right or wrong about the long term for any company, ( 10 year plus time frame ), all I care about is whether or not it’s SP will improve from where I bought it & ARL has been & I’m sure will continue to be my best ever investment. Bigger money has shown that even $1.50 is cheap here so....
