From 2006. Describes the history as a battle between loggers and greenies but is still useful information. Basically the State Forest was established in 1956 after a lot of the farms had reverted to crown land following the Depression. Logging and so on still went on for a while after that but it doesnt say how long.
Seems it might take some negotiation to get to a mining lease but no doubt doable.
