Carbon tax will do zero: expert Tuesday, 24 April 2012
While airlines pump up fares to deal with growing carbon taxes, an energy specialist says imposed fees will not help cut CO2 emissions and has called for the government to consider better alternatives.
Linc Energy chief executive Peter Bond and Australia’s tenth wealthiest individual – believes the world as a whole needs to come together and consolidate its views and actions in reference to carbon output and the introduction of carbon taxes.
“Is dropping CO2 going to help you today? If you do it in one country... but China doesn’t do it or India doesn’t do it or Pakistan doesn’t do it... if they don’t subscribe to the same philosophy and the same outcome, you’re wasting your time,” he said.
Mr Bond stressed that Australia’s focus on reducing carbon emissions has resulted in time and money being wasted.
“So, the result of the carbon tax? It’s going to do zero, absolutely nothing for the environment and that’s the tragedy.”
