Yes they did cut spending on Health and Education but this was more than compensated by middle and high income welfare (obscene) and Defence.
Huge increase for the ADF (Australian Defence Force).
These of course were not Costellos ideas and was often shocked when Deputy John would throw money around like a drunken sailor at election time.
Costello was competent if not impressive but wasted a once in a lifetime opportunity to invest in infrastructure, instead we went to war.
