Costello will go down in history as the Federal Treasurer who:

- enabled the Aussie economy to travel unscathed through the SE Asian Economic Crisis, which occurred BEFORE the Chinese economic boom;

- repaired the economic damage inflicted on the Aussie economy by the previous fiscally irresponsible Federal Labor Government;

- was prudent enough to set aside funds to cover the Federal Public servants Unfunded Superannuation. Funds that would have been wasted on pink bats and the like, if bequeated to this fiscally irresponsible Labor Government;

- bequeathed a substantial Government Surplus, reckelssy thrown around like confetti, by the present fiscally irresponsible Labor Government;

- managed to reduce Company tax and reduce the personal tax rates which had risen, in real terms over many years,due to the ravages of inflation.

And still had sufficient funds to cover:

- the aftermath of the 9/11 massacre;

- the East Timor Intervention;

- the Bali Bombing and its fiscal aftermath;

- the Ansett debacle and its horde of over paid, under worked, whinging staff

That's not to say that ALL the money was always spent wisely,that would be too mmuch to expect of any Government. But it is miles ahead of this fiscally irresponsible Federal Labor Government which will leave Office with a legacy of billions of debt. What a debased legacy to leave to future generations!
