Gaza is a ghetto. a prison from which Israel ensure there was no escape. even children with cancer could not access treatment in Gaza due to Israeli restriction. the parents were forced to ask Israel permission to travel to Egypt (yes, through Rafah gate) for medical care.
Gaza has been so constrained by Israel for many years.
like the Nazi ghettoes, Israeli Gaza doesn't need IDF to constantly occupy as the fences around Gaza, the patrols around the perimeter, the electronic monitoring and weaponry prevent any from attempting to leave 'illegally".
Gaza unemployment was 50%. most work was to be had outside Gaza and required severely scrutinised applications and was paid much less than Israeli workers were paid.
