I remember when Peter Fitzsimons was Appointed as a Companion of the Order of Australia in the 2010 Queen's Birthday Honours List.Peter is a staunch republican.I have always remembered the reason for albeing able to accept the award under such circumstances on a Today Show interview he, laughed and said ‘ It’s not really the Queens birthday ‘ and went onto say how proud his mother would be of him.( I wish I could locate that interview again, his wife Lisa was a part of it too )
Well today another hypocrite accepted the same award aboriginal journalist Narelda Jacobs. This lady continuously speaks out against the monarchy and is also a staunch republican.Both like to think that they are both very principled in their republican beliefs. But alas when they have the opportunity of some important letters after their names, their principals are no more.
