    Meanwhile, Mr Rudd has been talking up Mr Combet's deposed predecessor, Peter Garrett, on ABC radio, praising his decisions to approve the Gunns pulp mill in Tasmania and stop Queensland's controversial Traveston dam.

    "What we had with Peter Garrett was a bloke who puts all the evidence on the table, cops all the pressure coming in from both sides of the argument, and despite some great degree of political pain with the Queensland Government, took the decision that he took," he said.

    "On the pulp mill in Tasmania, these other huge projects across the country, I don't think anyone would fault Peter Garrett's decision-making processes one bit."
