From what I can see, the reported institutional holdings, as per Petra Capital’s pie graph last week, are based on the 21/09/16 holdings reported in the Annual Report. That is, JP Morgan held 6.2% (18.6m shares), HSBC 5.8% (17.5m) and ABN Amro 1.8% (5.2m).

As of last September, the top 20 shareholders held 132 million shares. According to the top 20 shareholder list provided by skippa, as of 3 August 2017, top 20 shareholdings had dropped by 17 million shares to 115 million.

JP Morgan’s holding (if you exclude Gavin Rezos’ shareholding transferred in July) was down 6.5m, ABN Amro had disappeared, meaning between 3.2m and 5.2m shares had been sold, and National Nominees had disappeared, meaning between 2.6 and 4.6m shares had been sold. Between these three, a net minimum of 12.3 million, net maximum of 16.3 million shares were sold.

On the flip side, BNP Paribas stepped up with 3.6 million shares, HSBC with 1.5 million and Citicorp with .5 million.

But on balance, there was net institutional selling between 21/09/16 and 03/08/17, a period during which the share price declined from $0.60 to $0.50.

It’s possible there are errors in my calculations, so please DYOR.
