5000m deep wells in 1500m of water arent that hard to drill with current technology. A current generation deep water DP drill ship (eg Santa Fe's Jack Ryan) could handle such a project with ease. Back in 2000 I was working on 5000m wells in 1200m deep waters off the coast of Trinidad. The wells were well within the capabilities of the rig we were using.
