"I had considered the vet insurance...but I was told the eye operation would not have been covered...as it was self inflicted....cost around $30 pm....so I figure we are about even...saved $360 per annum x 5 years = $1800 vet insurance...versus $1660 costs."

That sounds like a cop out by the insurance companies ;(
I thought insurance was for illnesses and accidents. Accidents are unforeseen events that may lead to injury, or worse, heaven forbid. It's not like your dog thought, "Here is a table leg, let me bash my eye against it." Animals are totally innocent.

What happens if an animal gets run over? Is that self inflicted because it shouldn't have been on the road or failed to look left, right and then left again?

Can we insure against insurance letting us down?

It was interesting to hear your dog has a reaction to KFC's fat content! Hope she recovered fully? What did fat cause and what was the treatment? Maybe she should stick to Subway.
