not sure I totally agree with your comments..
but I think it would go a long way if whatever study is done (and used as a positive sentiment e.g. 'npv 160M' or whatever..) that the component assumptions are disclosed alongside such statements.. so we can make up our own minds as to their robustness.
generally, if it is bulletproof, it will be howled from the rooftops...
