An economist says the world's three biggest platinum producers, Amplats, Impala and Lonmin have been systematically selling PGM metals below the global market price.
Dr Dick Forslund who is senior economist at the Alternative Information and Development Centre (AIDC), says Lonmin might have forfeited about R1.9bn, while Impala lost close to R2.8bn in the last decade.
AIDC says these platinum miners owe it to South Africa to reveal their main customers and also explain why they are price taking, instead of making the price, as they control half of the global PGM production."
