No end goal needed, if it was a breach and unexpectedly escaped the facility. Didn't say the release was intentional, but that just perhaps the virus was engineered or driven through rapid evolutionary steps to end up being what it is now and accidentally escaped. Not unheard of, just this time it was highly virulent and couldn't be contained.
Possibly developed for good reasons, possibly not. One thing is clear, the story China were giving, vs the actions they were taking is very suspicious.
Regardless let's hope the CCP are held to account for decades to come and that MPL is the silver bullet.
