Biological warfare - also known as germ warfare - is the use of biological toxins or infectious agents such as bacteria, viruses, insects, and fungi with the intent to kill or incapacitate humans, animals or plants as an act of war. Biological weapons are living organisms or replicating entities.
During the past century, more than 500 million people died of infectious diseases. Several tens of thousands of these deaths were due to the deliberate release of pathogens or toxins, mostly during the Second World War. Two international treaties outlawed biological weapons in 1925 and 1972, but they have largely failed to stop countries from conducting offensive weapons research and large-scale production of biological weapons. And as our knowledge of the biology of disease-causing agents - viruses, bacteria and toxins - increases, it is legitimate to fear that modified pathogens could constitute devastating agents for biological warfare.
Can, and more importantly, should we as mere mortals of western civilisation trust our enemies? China for one is hell bent on destroying democracy as we know it - can we trust China not to use the likes of Covid-19 or similar on mass against the Australian population in future time of conflict?
So if we answered no to this most important question, then we as a nation could be at extreme risk of being annihilated, we could simply be wiped out in a matter of months. Any government that fails to formulate a direct action plan to counteract this possibility is simply very gullible at best and perhaps bordering on treasonous at the other extreme.
