Not quite true. Some digging and the latest info: a new lawsuit was filed in March against both the County and CTR that challenges earlier approvals.

I personally wouldn't expect it to be successful - based mainly on the fact that the county and seemingly a large portion of the community are pro this project, but does highlight the nature and sensitivity of these projects.

Mining and chemical companies have a woeful record of doing the right thing...all promises and no accountability, so it's understandable that groups would continue to try to halt these projects.

Now this is more a curiosity - it's not related to Phoenix at all. Heading to WA soon, and was on google maps looking at where we were going and you can actually see all of the discarded blue asbestos from the Wittenoom mine. Fun fact, this was the last blue asbestos mine, the mine that Midnight Oil sang about in 'Blue Sky Mine' and was at the time owned by CSR (yep the sugar company that makes all our sugar, was also in the 'blue sky mine' song and used to own this mine) and had been started by the Hancocks....

You don't even have to zoom very far in to see the tailings left behind that have made this place a death trap....forever. Good old mining companies....

Link to the spot if anyone is interested:
