I think PLS is too big to be bought out plus there is less interest in hard rock projects. Current market cap is about $8bn and shareholders would want a decent premium. BHP have said they are not interested in Lithium which would be one of the few majors that could buy it.
More likely to be a smaller asset and probably brine. I've been looking at Galan Lithium which is a brine asset in Argentina. Big high purity resource but terrible management and on shaky ground so could be a surprise takeover target.
