"Tesla CEO Elon Musk, one of Trump's biggest backers and the world's richest person, said in July that killing the subsidy might slightly hurt Tesla sales but would be "devastating" to its U.S. EV competitors, "
That's disappointing. Musk used to say that he wanted competition and to see widespread EV adoption as quickly as possible to help reduce emissions. Did his attitude actually change or was it just talk back then? I guess you don't get to be that successful without putting money first despite making it sound like you were putting the environment first. That was probably a very successful marketing ploy. Clever businessman. The following was from an interview back in 2021 and now backing Trump and saying he will benefit from the scrapping of the EV tax credit which will kill off his local competitors shows how much more he cares about money over the environment.
Jamie Kitman: Yeah, I mean, I think Tesla is fairly credited with accelerating the drive to electric vehicles. But Musk has often claimed to be willing to share Tesla’s technology with other companies, and in reality, we’ve spoken to CEOs of major car companies who tell us that, when they approached Tesla, they were basically blown off — and in fact, were told by Musk himself that: Why would you want to spend all this money making an electric car when, for considerably less money, you can buy all these regulatory credits from us that would exempt your need to make such cars, and would save you a lot of money?
