An update below on CATL’s 500wh per kg battery going into production this year. That's more than double the best currently available battery capacity and much higher again than the standard capacity currently being used more broadly. it will be used in some aircraft. It will also make a large difference to EV range which should have a big effect on increasing demand for EV's in countries like the US and Australia which still have a lot of range anxiety with our love of road trips, four wheel drives and towing caravans or camper trailers. There are also expectations of 1200wh/kg lithium air batteries being developed. Imagine how much further that would drive demand for lithium vehicles both for land and air travel.
This is becoming a very exciting sector. I don't know if I would care if we get bought out or list. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush but an IPO gives current holders priority in buying more shares in the IPO which should provide a quick and significant gain on listing and exposure to recovery and further long term growth in the sector. I just hope those wells are flowing strongly and we get our JORC in the next few weeks.

In one of the most significant battery breakthroughs in recent years, the world’s largest battery manufacturer CATL has announced a new “condensed” battery with 500 Wh/kg which it says will go into mass production this year.“The launch of condensed batteries will usher in an era of universal electrification of sea, land and air transportation, open up more possibilities of the development of the industry, and promote the achieving of the global carbon neutrality goals at an earlier date,” the company said in a presentation at Auto Shanghai on Thursday.

At the time he predicted that this would become possible by 2023.
