Hey petere, your statistics on general rainfall in Zimbabwe are correct - most of the country is typical low-medium rainfall tropical savanna climate.
The Zambezi valley is different, being flat and low-lying and subject to Mozambique channel cyclones, which can cause catastrophic flooding as the picture above shows.
Ominously, Muzarabani means "floodplain" in the local vernacular.
So it comes down two factors;
Firstly, is the location of the new well in a low-lying area?
Secondly, is there chance of a Mozambique channel cyclone?
As in Australia, these cyclones are more likely to occur in La Nina years, so the oncoming El Nino is good news for us.
