IMT is delighted to announce that the first use of Phoslock in sewage treatment plant operations in Australia has been completed on behalf of ActewAGL in Canberra, ACT.
Phoslock was applied to one of the tertiary ponds at the Fyshwick sewage treatment plant (“STP”). The ponds have previously experienced algal bloom outbreaks due to the levels of phosphorus. Phoslock significantly reduces the algal growth by removing
    phosphorus from the water.
One of the prime objectives for the use of Phostock at Fyshwick will be to prevent water being affected by algal blooms which block and damage filters and other treatment equipment which is used to permit water reuse. The treatment of the ponds is expected
to prevent this damage and minimise phosphorus released tu the environment.
The Phostock used was manufactured at IMT’s plant in Brisbane IMT is aware of many other STP’s, reservoirs and recreational lakes throughout Australia affected by algal blooms. It is expected the successful treatment of the ActewAGL operated STP will provide an impetus for the controlling authorities of other algal-affected water bodies to use Phostock as their prime prevention strategy.
