    Since listing on the Australian Stock Exchange on 16 August 2002, IMT has made major advances in the market positioning of Phoslock and raised environmental awareness of its benefits. The use of Phoslock is an environmentally sound method of controlling phosphorus in water bodies and avoiding excessive algal growth.

    Over the past twelve months, a number of milestones have been reached in the commercialisation of the Phoslock technology:

    Phoslock is now a commercial product in Australia and is being sold to the Australian water industry;
    Phoslock has been developed into a granule for simple and low cost delivery into water bodies ranging from domestic aquaria to major lakes and dams;
    IMT has entered a Joint Venture in China to manufacture and sell Phoslock both for use in China and for export;
    Construction of the first commercial scale Phoslock factory is nearing completion with product expected to be ready for despatch by the end of April 2004;
    Phoslock has been approved by the Chinese authorities for use in the remediation of waterways and in sewerage treatment plants in and around Kunming, China and initial orders received from the Lake Dianchi Authority for the use of Phoslock in treating some of China's most contaminated water bodies;
    Phoslock has a pre-manufacture notice ("PMN") accepted by the US EPA and is now being marketed in the US;
    Phoslock has been purchased by government authorities for use in eutrophied (nutrient or phosphorus rich) lakes in New Zealand, subject to regulatory approval; and
    Phoslock is being developed into a long life pellet for use in industrial water applications
    Phoslock was originally developed for application in a slurry form requiring specialist preparation and application. When water bodies were small and where access was difficult, it became clear that service and related costs had the potential to price projects out of reach of customers.

    To overcome this, IMT has successfully developed Phoslock into a simple to apply dry granular form. Following the completion of the Phoslock factory in China, Phoslock granules will be sold as an alternative to slurry to target wholesale customers such as STPs and water management authorities.

    Granular Phoslock will provide IMT with major new market opportunities which were not available previously. Hardware stores, pet shops, nurseries and rural supply stores have been identified as ideal key retailers for Phoslock granules. The following applications are expected to attract strong retail market demand for the new product:

    Domestic and commercial fish ponds and aquaria;
    Decorative domestic ponds;
    Small waterways and streams;
    Farms for use in dams and troughs;
    Golf courses for use in ponds; and
    Irrigators such as nurseries for use in water storage
    Application of the Phoslock granules can be undertaken either by hand in the case of aquaria and small ponds or by existing equipment currently used by operators of farms, golf courses, nurseries, STPs and reservoirs. These users are currently limited in dealing with their eutrophication problems by using algicides (normally copper based) or aluminium products. These products are often used reluctantly. In many countries, copper and alum products are prohibited or discouraged for use in natural water.
