Phosphate mine could deliver iron too
Friday, 13/08/2010
A mining company developing a phosphate mine on the Queensland-NT border says it may also have found high-grade iron ore on the site.
Phosphate Australia says rock chips collected from its Highland Plains site, about 400 kilometres north-east of Tennant Creek, have iron grades of up to 60 per cent.
Managing director Andrew James says the results are encouraging.
"To turn up some rock chips that are actually over 60 per cent is very exciting, and potentially it allows you to bring a project to the market that you'd be able to build for a lot less money, because you won't have to do so much work to turn it into a marketable product."
