Spot on Chiller! I have the full research paper and interestingly it was written not long prior to Ian Burston becoming involved with Kogi Iron. The conclusion to the research reads....Industrial tests show that high phosphorous oolitic hematite ore treated by direct reduction roasting-grinding- magnetic separation on an industrial scale is feasible! Under optimal conditions ore grade reached 92.56%, iron recovery 82.77% and phosphorous dropped to 0.089%. (Raw product was 42.46% fe and 0.867% phosphorous)
Another extract from the conclusion...the liberation of metallic iron and gangue can be achieved by grinding, so high quality concentrate can be obtained after magnetic separation.
I'm guessing Ian Burston and Co. are only aiming for 58%+ fe and reduced phosphorous to keep the cost per tonne as low as possible and to offer the most profitable option.
The dephosphorization agents used were sodium and calcium salts which I would imagine are not overly expensive.
Feeling more bullish after reading this research!
