    Actually no, upon further consideration i think it is his son.

    If he was looking at himself in the picture: 'that mans father' would be the dad of the guy holding the picture. - "that mans father IS MY FATHERS SON" - 'That guys' dad cannot then be 'that guys' dad's son as well.

    Right?
