Pope Benedict announces visits to Cameroon and Angola in March 3 days ago
VATICAN CITY — Pope Benedict says he will go to Cameroon and Angola on his first visit to Africa as pontiff in March.
Benedict says he will travel to Cameroon in preparation for an October 2009 gathering of bishops at the Vatican dealing with Africa.
He also says he hopes to visit Angola to mark the 500th anniversary of evangelizing that country.
Benedict did not give exact dates in announcing the visit Sunday in St. Peter's Basilica during a ceremony closing a three-week gathering of bishops from around the world.
