No you need positive investor sentiment to sustain an uptrend. The stock market's a big casino - everyone's betting on what they think's going to win and the price usually reflects what people think it's going to be worth at a later time, not at this very second.
You can't bet on a football match after the game's ended (and if you could you'd get odds of 1-1) - and if you're going to wait for this speculative company to be a cash making machine, you're going to get odds closer to 1-1 (but you'll feel much safer). The market would have factored this in long before you bought them so good luck trying to time this.
There are companies which are losing money / cashflow which share prices rocket because of expectation. There's plenty of companies making money with the share price going down. The share price is almost always an indicator of what investors think will happen - not what's happening today.
