This was the original grant Prof Chen submitted back in 2019. These are multi-year grants and it has reached year 5. You don’t get paid all at once, but yearly over the grant time period.
These NIH grants are all effectively retrospective as you only get the grant if you have done more than 70% of the work before submitting (yes this is dumb, but that is the way NIH grants work). You then take the money you get for the grant and spend it collecting data for your next grant application.
