Yes. It has been known for a long time that there is an association between weight and cancer risk although the mechanism has been unclear. FTO was originally discovered in a genome wide screen for genetic variants associated with weight gain. This is why it has such a strange name - Fat Mass and Obesity-associated protein. Only later was it discovered that FTO was a m6A RNA demethylases and very important in cancer.
This paper just found (this is is not novel) that some variants of FTO are associated with an increased risk of breast cancer. This has been found before by other researchers for a range of different cancers and is just one more clue of how important FTO is in cancer.
