the percentages or various thresholds are all laid out in the corporations Act, and from reading some of these threads, I think it would be very informative for many to read up on the various takeover or buyout options so that we can dispel the (IMO) crazy notion that some suitor will just come in and swindle the lot of us with a lowball offer.

given the concentrated register, neither a scheme of arrangement (75% acceptance), or a hostile takeover (needing 90% for compulsory acquisition) would be likely in my opinion if the offer was not up to snuff.

as for first becoming a substantial shareholder - a real prowler would likely look to build a stake with an off market deal with some of the major shareholders who have less conviction or more reasons to sell (Garner? merchant?) before making a tilt, and then do it all in one hit - we wouldn’t see that coming.
