Very hard to know without large scale trials, but when you have cancer worrying about other possible effects is probably not high on you list.
We know from mouse studies that you can completely inactivate FTO and the only serious side effect is the mouse doesn’t get fat. I was really surprised by this result as normally inactivating a gene like FTO is lethal, but it does suggest that inhibiting FTO for a relatively short time period won’t cause serious problems in humans.
