Straight bisantrene is thought to not be absorbed in the gut as it is mostly insoluble at the pH found in the intestine. These sort of problems are very common in the pharmaceutical industry and are often solved through clever formulation.
As an aside it appears the only work ever done on the oral absorption of bisantrene was in two rats where the chemical was just dumped at high concentration into the stomach. I am not convinced by this data.
