    I haven't looked at it closely but I thought MSB was targeting a novel type of anti-inflammatory for arthritis and possibly airways diseases .

    my understanding is pain type meds can be incredibly hard to get across the line as they aren't live saving, they simply improve quality of life. You certainly don't see a lot of new ones. The "new" pain type meds seem almost exclusively alternative uses of other drugs. Most notable in recent times Lyrica/pregablin appeared to be a repackaged epilepsy drug that was used off label for pain and got a heap of traction with some clever pharmacy reps and a tonne of marketing (so it seemed in Aus).

    from what I can tell oncology drugs need to be safe first, then effective. Presumably as the logic would be to offer it to patients who've tried other treatments and are potentially terminal.

    obviously it is still critical to get study design right though
