Some people amaze me with their high and mighty attitude of using OS X and feeling that they are more secure. This is pure ignorance at it's best, and shows the marketing of Apple is holding up well, even though their security performance as they gain larger market share is sliding rapidly.

Put simply, OS X suffers less attacks, less media attention, and less awareness to vulnerabilities due to its mediocre market share. Should OS X ever see close to the user base of Windows, you can guarantee it will be the target of many attacks. Point is, writers of such malicious software to date, don't actually give a stuff about OS X.

Fact, OS X is not more secure than XP, and is less secure than Vista. I think so far this year, Apple has patched over 140 vulnerabilities over 7 updates. Just in their last update, 54 vulnerabilities were fixed, 45 of them for the operating system. 11 of them critical. Another big update this year was in march, with 45 vulnerabilities fixed, 7 critical.

XP is as safe, with decent firewall, decent av software installed and fully patched. It takes common sense to stay safe. Most people who get infected are surfing porn sites, p2p networks and installing cracks! Half the time they remove security from their systems as it impedes what they are trying to do. These people are to blame in a big way for the spread of viruses.

And don't think for one second that Steve Jobs would not envy the position of Gates and his software empire. Apple are just as bad when it comes to locking users into standards, conflicting with competitors, lack of security and quality standards etc, lack of openness... If you think different you don't know what you are talking about. It is business.

And unfortunately, you have bought an overpriced piece of trendy hardware, yet you talk about hating to part with your money, lol.

Your son has a brain it seems.

    Cheers

    Greg
