hope you're right hardmano, but being devil's advocate, this was on the ABC a couple of days ago....
The long delayed Papua New Guinea to Australia gas pipeline is facing a new deadline.
ABC Asia Pacifc TV / Radio Australia
The PNG government says it wants an answer by Easter on when the pipeline's major engineering and design work will begin.
The major partner in the proposed pipeline Oil Search Limited says it will make a decision by the end of April as Sean Dorney reports.
The building of the proposed PNG to Queensland gas pipeline has been deferred several times while Oil Search and its partners have tried to sign up enough customers to guarantee its profitability. However, they've never managed to reach that sales target. Oil Search's Managing Director, Peter Botten, told the Australia PNG Business Forum that his company had done a complete review of the project, it was now happier with the economics and it was not going to wait any longer. "Without a line in the sand, though, this project is dead!" That line in the sand will be a decision to commit to the expensive Front End Engineering and Design of the gas pipeline - a decision that will be taken before then end of April.
