The floodwater would be dammed and then pumped continuously to the south.Perhaps there is enough water at flood times to be able to drought proof Melbourne and all places in between.
The Chinese are building a North South water pipeline. It might be time to do something similar here. We keep saying that this is the driest continent but don't do anything about it.
