DAR ES SALAAM, Sept 23 (Reuters) - A subsidiary of Irish petroleum explorer Aminex Plc (AMNX.I) plans to lay a pipeline from Tanzania's natural gas-bearing Nyuni block to a nearby processing plant, consultants said on Wednesday.

Ndovu Resources operates the Nyuni block on behalf of other shareholders, whose sharing agreement covers the Kiliwani North field where a 40 million cubic feet per day natural gas discovery was made in 2008 in the Kiliwani North-1 (KN-1) well.

The well is close to Songo Songo Island gas field, off Tanzania's coast, whose gas deposits are already used by Songas Limited to generate electricity, and supplies some of it to about 30 industrial customers in Dar es Salaam.

"Ndovu Resources intends to lay an onshore feeder pipeline from the KN-1 well to Songas Gas Plant on Songo Songo Island," Dar es Salaam-based Samaki Consultants Ltd and JSB-Envidep Ltd, said in a newspaper notice on the environmental impact.

The statement did not say when construction would begin, or how much it would cost.

Aminex holds a 50 percent stake in the Nyuni licence, while United Arab Emirates' RAK Gas Commission has 25 percent and Australian firms Key Petroleum Ltd and Bounty Oil & Gas hold 20 percent and 5 percent respectively.

It is likely that we are moving closer to the big commercialisation news :)
