Hate to be sounding like a broken record and I do sympathize with what seems to me an oversupply of youthful outrage at some of the obvious stupidities, shortcomings, injustices, unfairness etc of western society.
You are not alone.
The Amish still have a reasonable alternative for small highly structured communities of disciplined, decent, God fearing people dedicated to a single style of living, who don't mind wearing black and dealing with horse manure. However, most of those qualities are in short supply in the rest of society so it will never be popular.
It seems many social views especially in this age of PC, refuse to account for the simple fact that people are of different types. It's not a question of equality or which is better but just a fact of Nature.
Consider a man (or woman) whose basic nature draws him towards working outdoors with the earth and his "hands". He ENJOYS this and it gives life meaning. He may have farming ancestors stretching back 1,000's years and is not the slightest bit convinced by physics, mathematics, theoretical philosophy, economic theory etc etc. Is it sensible or even possible to take this man and "re-train" him to sit at a computer or sit around watching television all day or who knows what else there will be ?
Or the many people who actually enjoy and understand working with mechanical devices where it used to be possible to take them apart and repair or modify them. The same applies to electronic items or even mathematical and IT systems where individual people actually knew how things work.
Unless something drastic happens, all this is going.
All that will be left are cooking shows, talent quests and worst of all, more Lawyers. But though they all are prolific this will not fill the void.
What are we going to do with all the physical energy of people and the lack of well being that comes from working at something that gives meaning to life ? In this regard even a terrible job that brings in money and supports a man and family is better than emptiness.
Do you think it a co-incidence that all around the World in western society ... youth suicide is increasing dramatically.
Do you have suggestions for a practical direction to replace what we have with what you see as "better" ? Not an implication but something that could actually be implemented.
Your ideas if possible please, not more quotes cause we get enough of that from Mr G and the religious tripe troupe.
