    I have to say that I do not think that your generalization that the immigrants of the 50s 60s were generally discriminated against is correct.

    I mixed with lots of these Europeans in that era and sure there were the labels and comments but there was also genuine assistance and welcome from the Australians of the time. They tended to stick together because it was comfortable and easier

    I remember that the migrants themselves were the most severe critics of the incoming migrants re their race and there inability to fit in and their comments in poor English about a newcomers bad grammar were quite funny

    I believe that comments that there were heavily discriminated against is a case of re-writing history to fit with today's situation

    If these people are not invited into our homes for meals etc its because in most cases we have nothing in common with them
