There's a good show on Netflix called "The Champions" that follows the story of Michael Vick's fighting dogs and their rehab. It should open the eyes of people who can't see past sensationalist media reports. "The Lost Dogs" by Jim Gorant is also a great read on the subject.
Basically it tells the story of "pitbulls" who've been rescued from Michael Vick's dog fighting operation and gone on to become great trustworthy family pets and even therapy dogs.
