I have no doubt pitbulls are great pets and no more likely to attack their owner than any other common breed but you have to be honest with yourself here. If something does go wrong (just like humans flipping out) the consequences are much higher. If my lab attacked me i can easily over power it and restrain it, no problem at all. Even if she grabbed my face i would have her off in 2 seconds. The same cannot be said for much more powerful breeds.

The recent story of the lady who was killed by her dog n Canberra is a sad one. She refused to get rid of the dog because it had saved her from armed intruders. I can understand the loyalty she had towards her dog but in the end it killed her. Being bitten by a dog is totally different from being attacked where the dog just doesn't let go. Many dogs will bite if annoyed long enough but how many would just continue to attack until the person is dead.
